Editing notes

Connect two scenes with one gesture

Plan the visual connection first, then review motion, framing and the final edit.

Find the moment both scenes share

A reaching hand, a turn or an embrace can connect two otherwise different locations. Sketch the pose at the end of the first shot and use it as the opening position of the second.

Check movement before atmosphere

Watch the cut at normal speed. Do the subjects continue in the same direction? Does the framing preserve the relationship between them? A change in lighting is easier to accept when the movement remains readable.

  • Compare body positions on both sides of the cut.
  • Check faces and hands after the scene changes.
  • Leave breathing room at the beginning and end.

Finish with a separate editing pass

Trim empty frames, balance the sound and add captions only where they help. Review on the same screen shape your viewer will use. Save a copy before trying an alternative crop or soundtrack.
